The carvers at JC are arguably the highest-skilled craftsmen in our factory.
Carving is an art that speaks for itself, and our team of carving artisans are some of the best in the business. We use only traditional hand carving techniques.
One look at any of our carved pieces will tell you everything you need to know about our dedication to producing the finest pieces of furniture in the world. Hand carving is sadly a dying skill and many companies have switched to stamping, pressing and even resin overlays.
JC still offers true hand carving from start to finish.
With a dedicated team of highly skilled carvers, anything is possible.
Our dedication to maintaining original skills has prompted JC to also offer in-house training programmes for new carvers.

Marquetry

Marquetry is an intricate technique developed during the early 16th century in Europe and involves covering the structural carcass of a product with pieces of veneer, cut by hand, and inlaid, to provide decorative detail.
Inspired by history and tradition, we are keeping this amazing craft alive through our products and designs. Églomisé

Églomisé is the traditional technique of decorative glass painting, dating back to Egyptian times. It is a very delicate, elaborate and imperfect craft, which gives each piece its own distinct character and individuality…
Shading then painting with gold leaf on the reverse side of glass, we can achieve countless intricate designs, so finished with a back layer of silver leaf and some with none to give just an intricate design on clear glass…
This age old technique is kept alive by our love of craftsmanship.
All of our special finishers are trained in-house.

Hand painting & Chinoiserie

This has been a recurring theme in European artistic styles since the seventeenth century, reflecting the Chinese artistic influences of the times.
It is characterized by it’s asymmetrical format and whimsical contrasts of scale, reflecting the attempts to imitate Chinese porcelain.

Foundry

It is the hardware that brings all the other details together to create the final completed work of art. Most of our hardware is cast in brass and distressed to achieve the appearance of an item that has been in use for hundreds of years.
Using various casting methods; sand casting, flask casting and lost wax casting, we produce hardware the same way a jeweler make a piece of intricate fine jewellery.

Etched brass

Etched brass technique is somewhat mesmerizing how acid can manipulate the metal in these ways. Any design you can think of can be added to the brass is depicted and then the final touch is to give it an antique look.

Gilding

Gilding is a decorative technique for applying a very thin coating of gold to solid surfaces such as metal, wood, porcelain, or stone...
Methods of gilding include hand application and gluing, typically of gold leaf, chemical gilding, and electroplating, the last also called gold plating.
